A premium exotic alloy 10Cr15CoMoV steel core, Super Steel containing 1% carbon creating an extremely hard cutting edge, sandwiched between 66 layers of 2 alloys of premium blade steel. The process exploits the alloy properties for the ideal combination of hardness, flexibility & corrosion resistance. The classic convex “hematuria” taper profile grind, exposes minute variations in the thickness of the layers revealing stunning patterns, characteristic of Damascus steel.
The elegant handle is made using wood, inlaid with three steel rivets and one ornate brass rivet. The butt is curved and finished in polished steel to match bolster. A composite of wood particles densely packed resin and pressure treated gives the handle an amazing look and feel. This technique was developed in Japan for high quality tools to be used in tough, wet, adverse environments. Stronger and more water resistant than wood, but emulating its luxury aesthetics.

So what exactly is Damascus steel? Medieval swordsmiths in the Middle East were renowned for the quality of their blades, forged from ingots of “Wootz” steel imported from Indian. Their swords were characterised by distinctive swirling patterns formed by the lamination of strips of hammer welded steel. The technique for making this steel was lost over the centuries, but in modern times craftsmen have succeeded in recreating the characteristics of this legendary material.
